were a highlight of my experience. I spent my Saturday nights sipping mango frappes (or Cervezas if I needed some liquid courage)  and having lively conversations with friendly locals. The exchange worked perfectly and helped each of us gain confidence in a relaxed and supportive environment,  gaining real-world practice beyond the classroom. I loved getting to meet many of the locals and gain friends in the community. 

From Textbooks to Tradition: Embracing Colombian Culture

Another highlight of my time at Spanish Adventure Colombia was our weekly group project. Each week we would dive into an aspect of Colombian culture, learn new words and learn the traditions. From performing historical myths, to brushing off my dancing shoes and performing the El Bambuco dance to cooking arepas de chocolo for the local community. Each week gave me a deeper appreciation of Colombian culture and helped progress my Spanish by leaps and bounds. 

From Classroom to Community: Befriending a Local

One of the most unexpected perks of Spanish Adventure was befriending a local named Pablo.  Through the school's community events, I had the opportunity to connect with Pablo and continue our intercambio 2-3 times per week. Pablo patiently corrected my pronunciation, taught me new phrases and shared Colombian culture.  These genuine conversations provided invaluable insights into Colombian life that no textbook could ever offer.

These adventures provided a much-needed break from studying and allowed me to bond with my fellow classmates while experiencing the breathtaking beauty of the Colombian countryside. My highlight was canyoning, rappelling down a 30 meter waterfall and conquering my fear of heights by jumping from a 6 meter rock into a swimming hole.
