Adventures in Antioquia: Hike to Piedra el Tabor

Every Saturday, Spanish Adventure organizes a big adventure for the students from the school.

This Saturday we hiked to the Piedra el Tabor – also known as “the fucking rock”. Everyone of us was exciting about it. Everytime we passed the square of San Carlos we saw the huge rock and I couldn’t wait to hike up to it and have a 360 degree view of San Carlos and it’s beautiful nature.

At 9 am Laura, the Spanish Adventure guide, the students and of course Dobby (the dog from the school) started the hike with a ride in the little Mototaxis to the beginning of the path. It was a 10 minutes’ drive.

Laura gave us instructions and we stretched before we got started for our 2 hour hike. The first 10 minutes we hiked through green fields and had already a super nice overview about San Carlos. After that, we hiked up a narrow path and it was getting hotter and hotter. We had to climb and hike through trees, plants and little rivers. Laura told us about the plants and animals who live around here. We stopped at a small waterfall to fill up our water bottles and tasted the delicious and fresh mountain water.

The last 20 minutes were really tough. We needed to climb up the whole way. Some parts were super steep and it was nice to have the other students around for help. And it was way more fun to hike up as a team. The last steps we had to climb a latter and climbed up another steep rock. And than, finally after 2 hours we made it! The view was breath taking! We were pretty exhausted from the hike and couldn’t wait to eat our lunch, which was already prepared for us in the morning. We enjoyed our lunch and the view while the clouds were passing by.

Some of us took a nap, a lots of pictures or just enjoyed the view. After half an hour it was time to hike down again. And it was super steep to go down and took a lot longer than I expected. But it was also a lot of fun and challenging. After 1,5 hours we made it all safe and were super happy and exhausted about this beautiful adventure to the “fucking rock”.

But this was not the end of the adventure. Laura took us to another beautiful part out of town. We stopped at a river with a restaurant. Some of us took a bath in the river or ordered the well deserved beer.
